Who’s coming back for Fallout season 2?

Initially, some people wondered if season 2 of Fallout was going to follow an anthology format and center on a new cast of characters. However, in an interview withVariety, Amazon MGM Studios executive Jen Salke confirmed that the new season would follow the same characters as before.

“We are committed to our journey with our beloved characters,” said Salke. “Such a great season 2 coming.”

This assured fans that the show will continue to follow its three primary leads. Ella Purnell will be back as Lucy alongsideWalton Gogginsas The Ghoul and Aaron Moten as Maximus. Kyle MacLachlan will also return as Lucy’s father, Overseer Hank, continuing the character’s story after his prominent scene near the end of the first season.

In addition, Moisés Arias and Frances Turner will return to play Lucy’s brother, Norm, and Cooper’s wife, Barb, respectively.

Who’s joining the cast in Fallout season 2?

It’s way too soon to answer that question, but we wouldn’t be shocked ifBreaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul shows up inFalloutseason 2. Paul previously worked withFalloutexecutive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy on HBO’sWestworld. Nolan has also revealed that Paul is a fan of both theFalloutgames and the show.

“Aaron Paul was at the premiere, a human being I love so much,” Nolan toldIGN. “And he was very polite. He was very enthusiastic about the show. There was sort of an unspoken kind of like, ‘What’s up, man?’ But we’ve been hearing from so many people, and it’s kind of fun to see theFalloutfans come out of the woodwork. People you’ve known a long time and you realize, ‘Oh, you’ve been playing this whole time.’ So it’s been a lot of fun.”

However, it has been revealed that Justin Theroux will replace Rafi Silver in the role of Mr. House, one of the most important characters inFallout. In the present day, he is the mysterious ruler of New Vegas. Before that, he was the founder and CEO of RobCo Industries.

Deadlinealso broke the news thatHome Alonestar Macaulay Culkin will join the cast ofFalloutin an unknown role, which has been described as a “crazy genius-type character.” If Culkin will have a recurring spot in the series, this would be the actor’s first major TV role since starring in HBO’sThe Righteous Gemstonesin 2022, in which he played the brother of Walter Goggins’s character, Baby Billy Freeman.

Is there a trailer for Fallout season 2?

Prime Video released a teaser trailer forFalloutseason 2 on August 19. Opening with a Geiger counter going off, the trailer depicts Lucy and the Ghoul traveling across the Wasteland to New Vegas. Lucy asks why her father would go to Vegas, and the Ghoul claims that the end of the world started there with “one man.”

The trailer then shows flashbacks of Ghoul as Cooper before the nuclear war. Cooper meets with Mr. House, who says that he knows a war is coming. It indicates that the season will examine the origins of the nuclear apocalypse and that Cooper knew about it ahead of time.

Intercut with footage of the characters fighting off marauders and monsters, the teaser set the stage for an epic new season.

What happened in the Fallout season 1 finale?

Falloutseason 1 ended with Lucy confronting Lee Moldaver and reuniting with Hank. However, the latter is revealed to have been working for Vault-Tec since before the Great War, which the corporation started by bombing the surface world so they could rule over everyone underground.

Hank also nuked the town of Shady Sands to prevent civilization outside of Vault-Tec’s control from starting up again, turning Lucy’s mother into a ghoul from the blast.

Though Lucy has disowned her father by the end of the finale, Hank escapes from captivity, and she joins the Ghoul in pursuing him across the Mojave Wasteland to New Vegas. As for Maximus, he was last seen with the Brotherhood of Steel, which promoted him to a Knight after assuming he killed Moldaver.

What’s going to happen in Fallout season 2?

Amazon MGM Studios released anofficial synopsisforFalloutseason 2, which reads:  “The new season will pick up in the aftermath of season 1’s epic finale and take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas.”

While speaking withThe Wrap, Nolan dropped a few other hints about what may be coming next season onFallout. He alluded to “one locale in particular that is close to my heart that I’d be excited to explore if we got a chance to.” That seems to be a reference to the glimpse ofNew Vegasthat we got in the finale.

OneReddit user leaked imagesof the set ofFalloutseason 2, featuring landmarks of New Vegas that look straight out of the game. Familiar sights include the New Vegas and Strip signs, Novac, Gomorrah, Vault 21 Hotel, Lucky 38, and The Tops. This is more proof of how faithful the showrunners are to the source material, which should satisfy fans of the Fallout games once they see the new season on Prime Video.

Co-showrunner Graham Wagner also told The Wrap that the Deathclaws — a genetically mutated species of bipedal lizard-like creatures — are going to appear, as confirmed in the trailer. And in the world ofFallout, the Deathclaws are the apex predator.

“We wanted to get Deathclaws, but we didn’t want to just throw it away. It’s such a monumental piece,” said Wagner. “We want to save some something for season 2 to be able to do it properly, not just added on to the massive worldbuilding we had to do already in season 1. So season 2, we’re very excited to finally tackle one of the most iconic elements of the games.”

Another leaked set photoseemingly confirms that members of Caesar’s Legion and New California Republic (NCR) soldiers will appear in the second season. Debuting inFallout: New Vegas, Caesar’s Legion is a totalitarian dictatorship hell-bent on enslaving the other societies in the Mojave Wasteland, causing them to clash with the NCR. Speaking of the NCR, it looks like their soldiers will have some fierce new armor in season 2, as shown by aBTS photo shared on Reddit.

In February 2025, Walter Goggins also gave some insight into how the second season ranks against the first. While speaking toDeadline, Goggins gave some high praise to what theFalloutteam has come up with for the new season, stating:

“We’re in the middle of filming [season 2] right now, we’ve been at it since November, and I can tell you that I thought season 1 was extraordinary. Personally, I was very pleased with it. This blows it out of the water, what these writers have done and the artisans that have come together to tell this story. It’s really gonna be something. I can’t wait for people to see it. We’re working really hard to make that happen.”

When and where was Fallout season 2 filmed?

Filming for season 2 issaid to have begunin early December 2024, with shooting taking place in Los Angeles and Toronto. Prime Video was able to line up a$25 million tax incentive from Californiain return for moving the production to the Golden State. In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Wagner explained how the move to California was an asset for the upcoming season.

“I think the audience is going to find the lack of strain on personal lives palpable,” Wagner said. “I feel like this is going to be relatively smooth sailing because we have so much great desert right here in California. We’re going to start scouting locations we literally can drive to from the writers’ room.”

In that same interview, co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet gave a more practical response on how filming in California would aid production.

“Less gray skies,” Robertson-Dworet added. “That was tricky about New York. We were shooting partially in the summer and partially in the middle of winter. And some of those exteriors, the gray skies, they’re just not as beautiful. There’s a reason filmmaking came to Southern California.”

Despite the benefits of shooting in California, filming for season 2 waspaused in January 2025due to the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles at the time. However, production for the second season soon continued, with production wrapping on July 13, 2025, with Ella Purnell announcing it with a cuteInstagramphoto of herself with co-star Kyle MacLachlan.

Does Fallout season 2 have a release date?

Though its premiere could’ve been pushed back to 2026,Falloutseason 2 will be releasedonDecember 17, 2025. However, instead of releasing the entire season at once, Prime Video will release a new episode each week.

The showrunners made it clear that they wanted to start filming as soon as possible to prevent a long layoff between seasons.

“We are going as fast as we possibly can, and we’ve got a lot of heavy lifting from Season 1 already done,” Wagner toldTHR. “We have sets, assets, visual effects that are already done. We are hitting the ground running this season. We’re going to be pedal to the metal to get season two out as fast as humanly possible.”

Fortunately for fans, all that work paid off, as the show is now set to return around 18 months after season 1’s release.

Will Fallout have more than two seasons?

Because of the show’s popularity and high viewership, Amazon Prime Video quickly renewedFalloutfor a second season. Though season 2 hasn’t even premiered yet,Amazon renewed the series for a third season in May 2025, showing how confident they are in the show’s potential for success.

Will there be more seasons after that? Wagner joked that his team could do a “billion seasons” to avoid questions about the show’s eventual ending. However, Wagner does have a number in mind if all things go according to plan.

“Look, we’ve talked about three seasons and we’ve talked about five seasons,” Wagner told THR. “Given the success of the show, five is suddenly feeling a little more appealing. But the industry is a temperamental thing, and we kind of have to go into each season being like, ‘This is our last.'”
