Gears of War is getting a remake and it’s coming to PlayStation 5

Microsoft has just announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a remake of the franchise’s debut title, and it’s the first Gears game to come to PlayStation.

Ever since it was released byMicrosofton the Xbox 360, Gears of War has been a franchise that Sony fans have been dying to play on their console.

It’s remained exclusive to theXboxfor over a decade at this point, although it made its way over to PC with the release of Gears of War 4.

Now, PlayStation fans can be excited as Microsoft hasannounced a remake of the original title… and it’s coming to the PS5.

Gears of War: Reloaded announced for PlayStation 5

Gears of War: Reloaded, launches on August 08, 2025, for $39.99, and is “optimized for more platforms than ever before.”

At launch, the game will be available on Xbox Series S|X, PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Being that it’s a first-party title, the game will be available on Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass on the day it releases.

If you already owned Gears of War: Ultimate Edition before the May 5 announcement, Xbox is giving you Reloaded as a free upgrade.

“Gears of War: Reloaded is a celebration of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. Featuring 4K resolution, 120 FPS support, and the ultimate multiplayer experience with cross-progression and cross-play, across all platforms, this is the definitive way to experience the game that started it all,” said Microsoft in a blog.

This isn’t the first remastered title that’s caught players by surprise over the last few weeks, either. On April 22, Bethesda shadow-dropped aremastered version of Oblivion, and fans flocked to their respective platforms to check it out.
