Summary
Below Deck Mediterraneanseason 9’s Chef Johnathan Shillingford may be good at what he does in the kitchen, but I’m concerned that he’s already showing signs of being a villain. WithBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9just getting started, the series has already shown us the start of some interesting storylines.Below Deck Mediterranean’screw, which features Captain Sandy Yawn, returning Chief Stew Aesha Scott, and returning Stew Elena Dubaic, has plenty of new faces working hard aboard Mustique. Chef Johnathan, also known as Jono, is one of the new crew members aboard the superyacht, and he’s already made waves.
WhileJono is one of the new crew membersaboard Mustique, this isn’t his first experience aboard a superyacht. The chef shared during an early episode ofBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9 that he’s been part of superyacht crews in the past, and has enjoyed the pacing. While he’s worked as a chef in kitchens far longer than he’s been a presence in galleys. Jono has been a professional chef for years, and he enjoys the ways superyachts differ from a traditional kitchen. Though Jono seems to have a good time cooking on superyachts,he’s showing signs of villainous behavior.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
Chef Johnathan Refused To Help Elena
During the firstcharter ofBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9, Jono got to know the rest of the crew aboard Mustique quickly, having to work quickly to sort out the menu for the first charter guests of the season. While the chef knew what the charter guests were looking for, the provisions provided to the superyacht ahead of their departure weren’t sufficient to create the meals that the guests were looking for. Left without a large amount of the provisions they wanted,Chef Jono and the crew had to find workarounds for the guests, putting a strain on the charter.
WhileChef Jono knew that the guests were going to be looking for late-night snacksthroughout their short charter, he chose not to prepare anything ahead of time for the Stews to quickly heat up overnight. Heading to bed after the dinner service was complete, Jono found himself being woken up by Elena, who was working the overnight with the unruly charter guests who wanted some more elaborate snacks prepared. While Elena was looking for Jono to help, he refused to wake up to prepare the snacks. Instead, he told Elena twice that he was prioritizing himself and his rest.

Chef Johnathan Elena A Derogatory Word
After being woken up on the charter and refusing to get up and help the rest of the crew through a difficult night, Jono was angry that he’d been interrupted more than once. He shared that hefelt it was disrespectful for Elenato have tried to wake him, and though he understood why she’d done it, he wasn’t happy about the fact that she hadn’t respected him enough to listen to his refusal the first time.Jono went to Captain Sandy and shared that Elena had tried to wake him, which irritated the Captain and caused other issues.
Despite the fact that Jono had said he was understanding of Elena’s reasons, he still used some derogatory language about her during his interview segments. Rather than actually showing he was empathetic toward Elena for having to deal with the unreasonable demands of the charter guests overnight,he shared that he’d thought Elena was annoying and called her a derogatory name. I think Jono’s behavior made it clear he’s going to be painted as a villain, as he was open about being irritated and didn’t feel the need to soften himself during his interview.

Chef Johnathan Comes Off As A Snob
During the first episodes ofBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9, Chef Jono came off as a snob during his appearances. His behavior and the way he answered questions during his interview segments made it seem like he felt he was above the rest of the crew. Jono’s discussions with Captain Sandy sounded like he was above the rest of the crew, especially with the way he talked about Elena.I feel like his attitude throughoutBelow Deck Medseason 9 thus far has been snobby, even though he’s tried to humanize himself with stories about his relationship, as well.
Chef Johnathan Lack Of Help Won’t Bode Well From Him Throughout The Season
While Chef Johnathan has been clear that he’s invested in working through issues aboard Mustique, his behavior hasn’t shown that he’s genuine in what he’s said about working with the crew. Chef Jono chose not to help the rest of the team in his own element during the earliest moments of the charter season, and ifhis behavior continues, it doesn’t bode well for his longevity aboard Mustique. I believe if Chef Johnathan doesn’t begin helping out with the rest of the crew onBelow Deck Mediterranean, he won’t last long on the superyacht crew.
