Summary
I’ve worked out which storyline from Marvel Comics would be perfect to replaceKang Dynastyin Marvel Studios' upcomingAvengers 5. First announced by Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige in 2022,Avengers: The Kang Dynastywas originally expected to pit a new team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against the multiversal villainKang the Conqueror and his variants. TheMCUcrossover movie has seen a series of disappointing updates, however, which have left me curious about which direction Marvel Studios will take the first Multiverse SagaAvengersmovie.
Controversies surrounding Jonathan Majors prompted Marvel Studios to make alterations toAvengers: The Kang Dynasty. Most notably, an article byThe Hollywood Reporterback in February noted that the movie’s title may be changed, while director Destin Daniel Cretton and writer Jeff Loveness also departed the project. All this has left me confused about the status ofAvengers 5, butrecent updates suggest the project may now be moving in the right direction, and I think one recent Marvel Comics storyline would be the strongest, most impactful, and most thrilling story to explore.

10 Potential Kang Dynasty Title Replacements For Avengers 5
Marvel Studios may be changing 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but there are several iconic Marvel Comics storylines that could take its place.
2021’s Avengers Forever Event From Marvel Comics Fits In The Multiverse Saga Perfectly
Avengers Forever Could Establish A Massive Team Of Multiversal Characters In The MCU’s Phase 6
Not to be confused with 1998’sAvengers Foreverstoryline, which saw Avengers ally Rick Jones gather heroes from varying time periods into a powerful new team to battle Immortus, 2021’sAvengers Foreverexplored a storyline that would fit perfectly in theMCU’s Multiverse Saga.A live-action adaptation of the more recentAvengers Foreverwould be my dream replacement forKang DynastyinAvengers 5. This is especially true as adapting this event would signify a fantastic introduction for one heavily-rumored supernatural hero: Ghost Rider.
Several actors have expressed interest in playing Ghost Rider in a Marvel movie, most notably Ryan Gosling, Norman Reedus, and Keanu Reeves.

InAvengers Forever, Robbie Reyes' Spirit of Vengeance, previously portrayed by Gabriel Luna inAgents of SHIELD, worked under the mysterious Avenger Prime to bring together a team of multiversal superheroes. This was in response to the emergence of the villainous Multiversal Masters of Evil, who have wreaked havoc across all realities, conquering or destroying other Earths.Marvel Studios' exploration of the multiverse, and the introduction of a number of powerful variants, makes me certain thatAvengers Foreverwould be the best storyto tell inAvengers 5.
Avengers 5 Adapting Avengers Forever Would Explain Its Huge Cast Of MCU Characters
Avengers 5 Is Reported To Include More Than 60 Returning MCU Characters
During a recent report byDeadlineregarding Shawn Levy being eyed to directAvengers 5, they also suggested that sources close tothe Phase 6 movie say"more than 60 MCU characters could reprise their roles.“The prospect of such a huge cast has divided fans, and I share some of these doubts, but an adaptation ofAvengers Foreverwould certainly constitute this colossal roster. Ghost Rider’s Multiversal Avengers team inAvengers Forevercomprised variant heroes from many different worlds, presenting the opportunity for characters from the MCU’s history, and other Marvel franchises, to return.
Marvel has been working hard in recent months to pull [Avengers 5] together so shooting can begin next year… Sources close to the project say more than 60 MCU characters could reprise their roles… Many of the characters in this film would have equal footing, making it more of an ensemble feature instead of a handful of characters leading the team.

Avengers Foreverintroduced alternate versions of notable heroes, including Tony Stark’s Ant-Man, Wolverine empowered by the Phoenix Force, T’Challa’s Vibranium Man, and many different Captain Americas, to name a few. FollowingDeadline’sreport, I’ve expressed confusion as to how so many characters could be featured inAvengers 5without any other Multiverse SagaAvengersmovies setting up a new team. AdaptingAvengers Foreverand its massive roster of multiversal heroes would provide the perfect explanation.
Kang The Conqueror Could Still Be Included In Avengers Forever, Though Not As The Central Focus
Kang Could Be A Member Of Avengers 5’s Multiversal Masters Of Evil
Perhaps the biggest disturbance toAvengers 5’sproduction, and the Multiverse Saga as a whole, was Jonathan Majors' 2023 conviction and subsequent firing from Marvel Studios. Since every Kang variant thus far has been played by Kang, the future of every iteration is currently up in the air, and it’s unlikely the answer to what will happen with the villain will surface anytime soon. While some believe theMCU may move on from Kang’s storyline,I’m much more inclined to think the villain will be recast, allowing him to return inAvengers 5, though perhaps not as the Avengers' only adversary.
LokiSeasons 1 & 2

LokiSeason 2
In Marvel Comics’Avengers Forever, Ghost Rider’s Multiversal Avengers took on the Multiversal Masters of Evil. Brought together by Doom Supreme and the Council of Red, a group of Mephisto variants, the Multiversal Masters of Evil hoped to disrupt the multiverse by killing every Earths' heroes.A recast Kang would fit in perfectly with the likes of Mystique’s Dark Phoenix, a Venom-enhanced Red Skull, Kid Thanos, and King Killmonger. Many of these villains could also help to flesh outAvengers 5’s60-strong cast, with the Multiversal Masters of Evil posing the greatest threat the MCU has ever seen.
Recasting Kang: 15 Actors Who Could Replace Jonathan Majors In The MCU
Recent updates strongly suggest that Marvel Studios will take the MCU’s Kang the Conqueror in a direction that doesn’t involve Jonathan Majors.
Avengers Forever Is A Great Way To Conclude The Multiverse Saga
Avengers 5 Can Make The Most Of The Multiverse With Avengers Forever
Since the beginning of the Multiverse Saga, Marvel Studios has debuted severalvariants of the MCU’s most significant heroes. Most notably,What If…?introduced animated alternate characters, whileLoki, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man: No Way Home, andThe Marvelsbrought variants into the live-action side of things. Even so,I still feel that Marvel Studios hasn’t made the most of the wild and wonderful possibilities the multiverse contains, but adaptingAvengers Foreverin Phase 6 can change this.
Peggy Carter’s Captain Carter led a team of Captain Americas and Captain Marvels inAvengers Forever, so Hayley Atwell’s prominence as the super soldier in the Multiverse Saga could set up her key role inAvengers 5.
Avengers Foreverfeatures the appearances of many incredible and fantastically weird variants, some of whom I’ve already mentioned. Marvel Studios has the whole of the multiverse at its disposal, so bringing the likes of Doom the Living Planet, Thor imbued with the Iron Fist, Infinity Thing, Ape Captain America, and the Prehistoric Avengers, among others, intoAvengers 5would make complete sense. This would contribute to one of the most unexpected adventures ever depicted in the MCU, but would be an excellent way to conclude the Multiverse Saga while showcasing the concept’s true potential.
Casting 10 Avengers Variants We Want To See Most In The MCU’s Secret Wars Crossover
Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to feature many cameos, and there are some possible Avengers variants that would make the MCU movie very exciting.
Avengers Forever Can Set Up The MCU’s Biggest Battle Ever
Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars need to try hard to at least match, if not exceed, the success and popularity of Infinity War and Endgame.
Avengers Foreverculminates in Marvel Comics' self-proclaimed"greatest battle in the history of the multiverse,“which I want to see inAvengers 5for two reasons. Depicting one of the MCU’s biggest skirmishes ever is the perfect opportunity forAvengers 5to one-upAvengers: Endgame’sepic final battle- which has seemed like a tall task since the Infinity Saga movie.Featuring or setting up a massive multiversal battle will also enableAvengers 5to lead directly into Marvel Studios’Avengers: Secret Wars, the final project of the Multiverse Saga.
Together,Avengers 5andAvengers: Secret Warsneed to try hard to at least match, if not exceed, the success and popularity ofInfinity WarandEndgame. Expected to be adapted from Marvel Comics’Secret Warsevent in 2015,Avengers: Secret Warswill likely deal with incursions ravaging many realities, which could be set up perfectly ifAvengers 5adaptsAvengers Forever’s"greatest battle.“A Multiversal War has been teased sinceLokiseason 1, so I would love to seeAvengers 5bring this to fruition, even if it’s not in the way audiences may have initially imagined.
