Summary

One Pieceseason 2 has officially cast multiple members of the Baroque Works, with one casting decision in particular all but confirming that a divisive anime arc will not be skipped. One of the best live-action anime adaptations,One Piecewill return for a second season and is now set to cover the Arabasta saga. The Baroque Works’ casting news is expected to be the first of many announcements regarding all the heroes and villains that will debut inOne Pieceseason 2.

Netflix’sOne Pieceseason 1may have had a lot of characters, but the scope of the show will only grow as Luffy and his friends enter the Grand Line. Assuming that the live-action series will follow the structure of the manga, the Straw Hats will visit a couple of islands before heading to the Kingdom of Arabasta. One of those islands is Little Garden, the setting of a divisive anime arc criticized for its poor pacing and low-stakes adventure. However,it seems like Netflix’sOne Piecewill have a Little Garden episode after all.

David Dastmalchian, who recently starred inLate Night With The Deviland is also known for films likeThe Dark KnightandThe Suicide Squad, has joined the cast ofOne Pieceas Mr. 3. In addition to Mr. 3,One Pieceseason 2 has also cast Daniel Lasker (Raised by Wolves) as Mr. 9, Camrus Johnson (Batwoman) as Mr. 5, and Jazzara Jaslyn (Warrior) as Miss. Valentine. Although Mr. 3 appears during the war for Arabasta in the final arc ofOne Piece’s second saga, it is during the Little Garden episodes that the villain gets to be in the spotlight. A hilarious character whose powers come from the Wax-Wax Fruit,Galdino is the primary antagonist of the Little Garden arc.It would not make sense to cast a popular, high-profile actor like David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3 ifOne Piecewere to skip Little Garden. Although Galdino does return in another saga and even becomes an ally of Luffy, this only happens much later.

Why Little Garden Is Such A Divisive One Piece Anime Arc

One Piece anime’s Little Garden episodes have awful pacing

Following the confirmation thatOne Piecelive-action season 2 was going to happen, many argued that it would be better for the show to go over Little Garden quicker than the anime or even skip it altogether. Despite its importance to the story,Little Garden is not a fan-favorite arc and is even considered to be skippable by some. The problem with Little Garden comes particularly from the anime, whose pacing is much slower than the manga. One Pieceanime spends eight episodes on the island of Little Garden, yet not much happens.

One Piece Season 2 Can’t Afford To Skip This Small Zoro Moment After New Manga Reveal

Netflix’s live-action One Piece show may have been tempted to skip this Zoro moment in season 2, but thanks to the manga, that’s no longer possible.

Between the Straw Hats’ arrival on the island and their battle against Mr. 3’s wax traps,One Piece’s Little Garden arc moves very slowly and is quite repetitive. This is more of a pacing issue with the anime than a story issue withOne Piece, which, unfortunately, caused many to deem Little Garden as skippable or even compare it with filler episodes. Considering thatOne Pieceseason 2 will only have so many episodes to cover all of Arabasta, it’s safe to say the live-action show’s version of Little Garden will have better pacing than the anime.

One Piece Season 2 Not Skipping Little Garden Is The Right Decision

Little Garden is a very important arc despite pacing issues

Despite its relatively low-stakes tone and the slow pacing of the anime episodes,Little Garden is a very important arc and should not be skippedby the live-action show. The Straw Hats’ encounter with the Baroque Works sets the stage for the Arabasta saga and introduces names and concepts that will be important at the end of the saga. Although Luffy and his friends learn about Crocodile and his crime syndicate during Whiskey Peak, it’s during Little Garden that they truly become enemies of the Baroque Works and vice versa.

After Arabasta, Galdino returns during the Impel Down arc.

By the end of the Little Gard arc,One Piecevillain Crocodilewrongfully believed that the Straw Hats were dead. This arc also includes a great moment between Sanji and Crocodile, not to mention that the Straw Hats acquire the Eternal Pose for Arabasta. The Straw Hats also run into two giants and are introduced to a couple of other members of the Baroque Works, all while they fight Mr. 3. If done right,One Pieceseason 2’s version of Little Garden can set up Crocodile as a major threat and raise the stakes for the episodes set in Arabasta.
