Pokemon Go finally adds more levels for longtime players in new update

Pokemon Go players will soon be able to push beyond the long-standing level 50 cap, as Niantic confirmed a major leveling update set to roll out on June 25, 2025.

The update will increase the trainer level cap to 80, rebalance XP requirementsacross all levels, and introduce new rewards for progression. Some trainers may automatically level up when the system adjusts, but no one will lose progress.

As part of the change,Level-Up Research tasksfor levels 41 to 50 will be removed, while new tasks will be introduced between levels 71 and 80. Trainers above level 70 will also see higher odds of becoming Lucky Friends.

Players who reach certain milestones before the update will be recognized with a one-time medal marking their highest level between 1 and 50. Trainers who have already reached level 50 will keep their exclusive jacket and also unlock a new avatar pose.Nianticconfirmed these rewards will no longer be obtainable after the update.

Pokemon Go event

The leveling overhaul will also expand storage capacity forPokemon, items, and Gifts. New avatar items will unlock starting at level 25.

XP Celebration event

Ahead of the changes, an XP Celebration event is running until October 14. Bonuses include double catch XP, an extra 3,000 XP from raid and Max Battle wins, and Timed Research worth more than seven million XP. The level 47 requirement to walk 25 km in a week has also been reduced, dropping from eight times to just two.

Niantic is also offering a limited-time Ultra Box in thePokemon GoWeb Store for $9.99, which includes Lucky Eggs, Incubators, Incense, and Lure Modules.

The update marks the first level cap increase since the gameexpanded beyond level 40 back in 2020.
