Summary
Sweet Homeseason 3’s first trailer shows a lot of Song Kang’s Hyun-su and leaves me worried about the character’s fate. AlthoughSong Kang has many K-dramas on Netflix,Sweet Homeis by far his biggest hit. The first Korean show to join Netflix’s Top 10,Sweet Homenow returns for a third and final season.Sweet Homeseason 3’s storyfocuses on the conflict between humans and neohumans, the latter of which is led by Sang-won. With only one season left, I can’t wait to learn how Hyun-su’s story will end.
Sweet Homeis based on a webtoon, but it’s impossible to predict what will happen next based on the source material only. That is because, after covering most of the webtoon in season 1,Sweet Homeis now telling an original story. The horror K-drama introduced several new characters and storylines during season 2, all of which will come into play in its grand finale. AlthoughSweet Home’s final season has a lot to deal with, I’m particularly interested in what the show will do with Hyun-su. Based on theSweet Homeseason 3 trailer, he might be in danger.

Hyun-su Wants To Kill Sang-won “No Matter What” In Sweet Home Season 3
Hyun-su is ready to do whatever it takes in season 3
The first trailer forSweet Homeseason 3 reveals thatHyun-su is ready to do whatever it takes to take down Sang-won, which makes me worried about whetherSong Kang’s characterwill survive. Once known as Ui-myeong, Sang-won can jump from body to body and has taken at least two different forms since the beginning of the show. He was the fiancé of Yi-kyung, who spent most of season 1 trying to find out what had happened to him. Sang-won was used as a lab rat by Dr. Lim and the military, hence his hatred toward humans.
Sweet Homeseason 3 releases July 19 on Netflix.
At the end of season 1, Sang-won changed their identity once more and took over Sang-wook’s body. In season 2, the villain asked Hyun-su to join him in making neohumans the planet’s dominant species. Sang-won believes that neohumans are superior to humans in every way and deserve to take over, otherwise, they will be hunted down. WhileHyun-su wants to protect monsters and neohumans, he outright refuses Sang-won’s invitation. This set up their rivalry, which will now culminate inSweet Home’s final season.
Dr. Lim
Oh Jung-se
Hyun-su is going after Sang-won inSweet Homeseason 3, but this will not be their first fight. In season 2, episode 3, Hyun-su faced Sang-won in an intense fight that did not end well for the former. Hyun-su was defeated and disappeared for almost a year. With more than enough reasons to fear Sang-won, the fact that Hyun-su says he will kill him“no matter what”makes me believe thatSweet Home’s protagonist is ready to die to stop the villain.Hyun-su has tried to fix everything himself since season 1, which also makes me worried about his fate.
Hyun-su Is Fighting A Lot Of Monsters In Sweet Home Season 3’s Trailer
The stakes are higher than ever in Sweet Home
Hyun-su has quite a lot of action scenes in theSweet Homeseason 3 trailer, including one where he is flying toward a giant monster. Thefinal season ofSweet Homeappears to be bigger and bolder than the previous two, especially regarding the variety of monsters and neohumans. In addition to the giant creature at the end of the trailer, there also seems to be a new type of monster – zombified creatures that look like skulls. Most of Hyun-su’s scenes in the trailer were action sequences, suggesting he will pick up a lot of battles in season 3.
With a lot at stake inSweet Homeseason 3, I’m worried that Hyun-su will not make it.

Hyun-su has learned how to use his monsterization as a weapon. Song Kang’s character can turn half of his body into that of a monster, with his right arm turning into a giant wing that can be used not only for flying but also as a shield. AlthoughHyun-su is very powerful, Sang-won has the numbers. I was particularly scared by one shot from the trailer that shows dozens of neohumans lined up. Assuming they are all following Sang-won, Hyun-su might have to get to them first before facing the final boss.
Will Hyun-su Die In Sweet Home Season 3?
Hyun-su could have a bittersweet ending
With a lot at stake inSweet Homeseason 3, I’m worried that Hyun-su will not make it. It’s important to notice that Hyun-su was considering taking his own life at the beginning of the show and only did not do so because Eun-yu was there. Since then, Hyun-su has forged new bonds and found new purposes in life following the death of his family in a car accident. That said,Hyun-su is still a tragic hero who may think his life will only be worth it if he saves everyone no matter what.
After so much death and betrayal, it’s difficult to imagine howSweet Homecan have a happy ending. The world has fallen apart, both humans and monsters are suffering, and there is no indicator of when or how the monster pandemic will end. I would not be surprised if Hyun-su died as the hero at the end ofSweet Homeseason 3. The show has proven several times that is not afraid of killing off important characters. At the beginning of season 2, for example,Park Gyu-young’s Ji-su died. Hopefully, though, that won’t be the case.

Sweet Home’s Best Hyun-su Ending Is Not Killing Him Off
Hyun-su should not die in Sweet Home’s final season
While it would make sense for Hyun-su to sacrifice himself at the end, I hope that he makes it out alive from season 3. After going through so much, Hyun-su deserves a happy ending, whatever that means in the world ofSweet Home. Despite the monsters, curses, and twisted experiments,Sweet Homeis a story about Hyun-su fighting his own demons. The “monster side” of Hyun-su is nothing but a manifestation of his fears and insecurities, which the show itself acknowledges. I believe killing off Hyun-su is not the best way to conclude his story.
Sweet Home Season 3’s Ending Confirmation Makes Me Even More Excited About Song Kang’s K-Drama Future
Song Kang’s next projects might take a while, but the end of Sweet Home after season 3 makes me excited about what the K-drama star will do next.
Considering that the whole point ofSweet Homeseason 1 was that Hyun-su found in the apocalypse a reason to live, it would be anticlimactic if he died at the end of the story. Regardless, I’m assuming that Song Kang’s character will have a very important role in the outcome of the war between humans and neohumans. He may be the one to put an end to it by bringing the two sides together. Hopefully, Hyun-su can defeat Sang-won without sacrificing his life. After missing most of season 2, it’s time for Hyun-su to save the day.
