Sydney Sweeney opens up about ‘crazy’ transformation for Christy Martin biopic
It’s her bathwater rather than her acting making headlines of late, but Sydney Sweeney has opened up about her transformation as Christy Martin for a new boxing biopic.
The women of Hollywood are a busy bunch, and Sydney Sweeney is fitting right in. With films likeMadame Web,Immaculate, andAnyone But Youunder her belt in the last few years, she’s also got filming forEuphoria Season 3finally in sight.

On top of that, she’s made a side quest into the world of business, selling off herbathwaterin the form of Dr Squatch soap after filming a series of successful commercials for them. The limited stock sold out instantly, with bars being toutedsecond-hand for up to 20,000% profit.
It’s possibly a lesser-known fact that Sweeney has also been busy filming for a new movie, where she’ll play professional boxer Christy Martin. In a new interview with W Magazine, she discussed becoming “crazy strong” for the role.

Speaking to W, Sydney Sweeneyexplained, “My body was completely different. I didn’t fit in any of my clothes. I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge.
“It was crazy! I was like, Oh my god. But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

Sweeney is said to have gained 30 pounds in order to play Martin, best known for competing as “The Coal Miner’s Daughter” between 1989 to 2012. In 2009, she held the WBC female super welterweight title.
Early reports suggest the film will follow her rise to becoming America’s most well-known female boxer in the 1990s, and later, her husband’s attempt to murder her in 2010.

“I loved it,” Sweeney added. “I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”
After filming, Sweeney had seven weeks to drop the weight she’d gained in order to film her next project – Euphoria Season 3.
Director David Michôd weighed in, “Martin put female boxing on the map in the mid-’90s. She was the first woman fighter on the cover of Sports Illustrated and fought on the Mike Tyson undercard. Her husband was also her trainer, and then, after her success, he tried to murder her. Our film is a wild mix of inspiring underdog sports-world story and personal saga.
“Sydney trained her butt off to play the part. The beauty of Sydney is that she turned up to work every day with her tail wagging, ready to go. No matter how tough it was, she was like a ray of sunshine.”
The biopic is currently untitled and has no set release date.
