This meant an exciting return to the familiar home where all the chaos of the original series took place. Of course, Leia and her new friends are teenagers in the 1990s, which means plenty of well-placed nostalgia for the decade of grunge music, Blockbusters, and the rise of the internet. That ’90s Showgot a great start with its first season, withplenty of storylines to get the ball rolling for season 2.

8Leia Began A Tradition Of Staying With Her Grandparents In Point Place Over The Summers

Each Season Of That ’90s Show Is Set During A New Summer In Point Place

Leia’s visit to Red and Kitty’s house was supposed to last only a short time. However, after connecting with the neighbor, Gwen, she asked her parents if she could stay in Point Place for the summer.Eric and Donnawere nervous about this since they clearly knew the sorts of things that teenagers could get up to in the Wisconsin town. However, they ultimately agreed at the beginning ofThat ’90s Showseason 1 that it was time for their daughter to have some new experiences of her own.

Kitty delighted in having teenagers back in her house, and Red reluctantly came around to the idea. This allowed Leia to develop a close knit friend group, which hung around the basement, filling it with a cloud of smoke on the daily. Of course,Leia had to return home to Chicago at the end of the summerso she could get back to school. However, it was ultimately decided that she would return to her grandparents' house every summer to be reunited with her Point Place friends, thus allowingThat ’90s Showto continue with each season.

7Leia & Jay Started Dating In That ’90s Show Season 1

Leia Fell Hard For Michael & Jackie Kelso’s Son

Leia met Jay Kelso, son ofThat ’70s Show’s Michael and Jackie, at the beginning ofThat ’90s Showseason 1. Like his father, Jay had a reputation for dating and hooking up with every Point Place girl he could. Leia, on the other hand, had never even been kissed. Despite their differences, the pair quickly hit it off, and as they began to date, the relationship inspired both to make some changes. Jay decided to prove that he was more than just a Kelso playboy, while Leia became determined to shed away her innocence and naivete.

Overall, Jay and Leia’s relationship went pretty well for most ofThat ’90s Show. They were thoroughly obsessed with one another andbecame determined to do long-distance work once Leia returned to Chicago. However, going into season 1’s final episode, Jay had second thoughts about this, and he wound up breaking things off with Leia. He came to regret this and begged Leia to take him back before she left Point Place. As of the end ofThat ’90s Showseason 1, Leia and Jay’s relationship was somewhat ambiguous.

Going into season 1’s final episode, Jay had second thoughts about this, and he wound up breaking things off with Leia.

6Ozzie Came Out To Kitty

Ozzie’s Next Step Is to Come Out To His Family

Ozzie was pretty open with his friends about his sexuality inThat ’90s Showseason 1, but he ultimately revealed that he hadn’t come out to his parents or any other adult. He decided that he wasn’t quite ready to do so, but he developed a step-by-step plan that would lead him to finally break the news to his family. This involved first coming out to adult strangers before taking the somewhat more uncomfortable step of telling an adult he respected that he is gay.

Ozzie and Kitty developed a sweet and comical friendship inThat ’90s Showseason 1, making her the perfect adult forOzzie to test his coming-out skills. He took advantage of Kitty’s request for help setting up the Formans' new computer and broke the news.Kitty was completely accepting and thrilledthat one of her home’s resident teenagers would trust her with such a confession. While Ozzie often serves as the comedic relief ofThat ’90s Show, this was a touching season 1 scene, which will hopefully lead to more heartwarming moments in season 2.

5Red Gave Leia The Vista Cruiser For Her 15th Birthday

The Vista Cruise Is Still Going Strong In That ’90s Show

The OldsmobileVista Cruiser was an important feature ofThat ’70s Show. Red gave Eric the old car early in the series, and it was the iconic setting of the opening song and several big romantic moments between Eric and Donna. For this reason, the Vista Cruiser’s return inThat ’90s Showwas especially nostalgicand exciting. In season 1, Red wound up in a gift-giving battle with Bob, as the two both tried to one-up each other for Leia’s 15th birthday. Bob seemed to have won with his expensive karaoke machine, but that changed when Red pulled out the familiar Vista Cruiser.

Though Leia can’t legally drive on her own during the events ofThat ’90s Showseason 1, the car makes some frequent appearances throughout this first batch of episodes. Eric and Donna had another touching moment sitting on the old hood as they reminisced about their teenage years in that exact location. That ’90s Showseason 1 also saw some brand new memories made in the Vista Cruiser, such as Jay’s failed attempt to get a drugged-up Kitty Forman home without incident. Surely, this beloved old car will continue to be a feature going into season 2.

The first 8 episodes ofThat ’90s Showseason 2 will stream on Netflix on June 16, 2025.

4Nikki & Nate Faced Relationship Struggles In That ’90s Show Season 1

Nikki & Nate Don’t Have Very Much In Common

Nikki and Nate were already dating one another when Leia met them inThat ’90s Showseason 1. This pair took the longest for the show’s new protagonist to get close with since Nate was simply Gwen’s brother while she and Nikki didn’t seem to have much in common. However, over the summer, Leia finally managed to build some common ground with the couple. As her individual relationships with each other began to develop,it became more apparent that there were some significant difficulties between Nikki and Nate.

Though kind and lovable, Nate is sort of the dumb one ofThat ’90s Show’s friend group. In this way, he’s comparable toThat ’70s Show’s Michael Kelso, which means his personality contrasts significantly with the brainy Nikki. This leads to trouble in their relationship as Nikki begins her college prep with tutoring from an attractive, intelligent young man who makes Nate extremely jealous. Naturally, this led to some poor decisions on Nate’s part, leaving the duo’sromance in a tumultuous place going intoThat ’90s Showseason 2.

3Sherri Is Dating Fez As Of The End Of That ’90s Show Season 1

Fez Made A Return For That ’90s Show Season 1

At some point between the events ofThat ’70s ShowandThat ’90s Show, Bob Pinciotti moved away to Florida, and a new family moved into Donna’s childhood home. This included, of course, Gwen and Nate, whose mother, Sherri, was a single mom prone to making bad dating decisions. Sherri was presented as the new Bob inThat ’90s Show, a significant nuisance for Red and Kitty, who comes over to raid the kitchen and share too much about her personal life. Of course, this means a great deal of entertainment for audiences.

Sherri had a new boyfriend inThat ’90s Show, who waseventually revealed to be none other thanThat ’70s Show’s Fez, who ran a salon in Point Place in the 1990s. While this relationship was obviously outrageous for the majority of season 1, there were a few legitimate tender moments throughout. In the final episodes, Sherri and Fez take their relationship to the next level, with Fez deciding that he wants to get to know Gwen and Nate better. However, actorWilmer Valderrama isn’t slated to return forThat ’90s Showseason 2, so it will be interesting to see how these developments are handled.

2Kitty Got A Job As The School Nurse

Kitty Will Be Spending Even More Time With Teenagers After That ’90s Show Season 1

Kitty always loved Eric’s friends hanging out at her house inThat ’70s Show, and it was no different inThat ’90s Showseason 1. After years of being an empty nester, having teenagers as a constant presence in her life was like a breath of fresh air, and it reminded Kitty of what she loved to do best—take care of people. This realization ultimately led her to seek out more ways that she could be fulfilled in this sense, andat the end ofThat ’90s Showseason 1, Kitty got a job as the nurse at Gwen, Nate, Ozzie, and Nikki’s school.

This means that, though Leia will be heading back to Chicago for the school year, Kitty’s relationship with the local teens will continue. This also seems to indicate that the gang will still hang out in the Forman basement over the school year. WhenThat ’90s Showseason 2 picks up, the characters should be even more comfortable with one another and their surroundings, which is sure to make the eternal hostess, Kitty Forman, very happy.

1Leia & Nate Almost Kissed (& Gwen Saw Them)

Leia & Nate Will Have To Either Come Clean Or Commit To Their Secret

The big event ofThat ’90s Showseason 1’s finale was the almost kiss between Leia and Nate. Leia and Jay had seemingly broken up, leaving the teenage girl completely devastated. Nate and Nikki were on nearly as tumultuous ground, with Nate feeling self-conscious about how different he was from his girlfriend. So, as the pair stood in the Runck kitchen and a moment of brief chemistry and shared misery overtook them, they leaned in for what was very nearly a first kiss.

Thankfully,Gwen walked in at just the right moment, and Leia and Nate never officially locked lips. However, this was still an awkward way to end the summer. It means there will surely be a great deal ofconflict going intoThat ’90s Showseason 2, as Leia grapples with the reality of what she almost did. The coming episodes will likely explore how this will affect her relationship with Nate, Gwen, Nikki, and, of course, Jay once the truth comes out. It’s classicThat ’70s Show-style drama, which makes the spinoff series' return in 2024 all the more exciting.
