Warning: Spoilers for That ’90s Show season 2 ahead!
Summary
Nate and Nikki’s relationship went through a lot of ups and downs inThat ’90s Showseason 2, and a specific point in their story is just like Jackie’s big scare inThat ’70s Show. The Netflix spinoff series continues to parallel some stories from the original, which makes sense since both are about the chaos of being a teenager. That ’90s Showpoints out that while decades change, teenagers will always be the same. Leia and her friends get up to a lot of the same mischief as their ’70s predecessors did, which means many of the same consequences.
InThat ’90s Showseason 2, Nate and Nikki endured a painful breakup when the pair realized their relationship had already been on borrowed time. This was mostly Nate’s idea, and Nikki’s heartbreak led her to attempt to punish her now ex-boyfriend in any way she could, most notably by trying to be as attractive to him as possible. This worked a little too well, and while Nikki ultimately realized that the breakup was for the better, she and Nate still wound up hooking up any chance they got. Of course, this resulted in a pregnancy scare inThat ’90s Showseason 2.

Here’s a breakdown of the cast, characters, and cameos of That ’90s Show parts 1 - 3, including the returns of That ’70s Show’s many cameos.
Nate & Nikki’s Pregnancy Scare In That ’90s Show Is A Nod To Jackie In That ’70s Show Season 1
That ’90s Show Continues to Follow In Its Predecessor’s Footsteps
Nikki took a pregnancy test inThat ’90s Showseason 2, episode 7, “Baby-Baby-Baby,” graciously provided by Kitty Forman (who was only too excited to help). To everyone’s shock, the test came back positive, and Nate went on a bit of a spiral trying to figure out how he would handle the situation. Thankfully, Kitty realized that the test might have expired, and after some experimentation, the gang realized that it had given a false positive. Nikki wasn’t pregnant after all, but the scare had a lasting impact on her and Nate’s situationship inThat ’90s Show’s season 2’s ending.
This is pretty similar to the story inThat ’70s Showseason 1, episode 17, “The Pill,” which saw Jackie face a pregnancy scare as well. The relationship between Nate and Nikki is often compared to Jackie and Kelso since both pairs began their respective shows in their relationships. Niki’s false positive drew these parallels even closer, especially sinceKelso panicked just as much about the news before ultimately deciding that he would do his duty as a father. What’s more, both situations further affected the characters ofThat ’70s ShowandThat ’90s Show.

The second part ofThat ’90s Showseason 2 will be released on Netflix on June 05, 2025.
How Jackie’s Pregnancy Scare Impacted Donna (& Leia)
That ’70s Show’s Story Trickled Down In That ’90s Show
AfterJackie’s pregnancy scare inThat ’70s Showseason 1, Donna and her mother decided it was best that she get on the birth control pill. This decision threw characters like Bob and Red into turmoil, but it seems that it was a good thing overall. Donna later makes the same decision for her daughter since she mentions inThat ’90s Showseason 2 that she had put Leia on the pill as well.
If That ’70s Show has taught us anything it’s that teenagers can only keep their hands to themselves for so long.

Just as Jackie and Kelso’s near miss inspired Donna to be more careful with Eric, Nikki and Nate’s situation inThat ’90s Showcontinued to impact Leia and Jay. Though Leia is on the pill—indirectly related to Jackie’s pregnancy scare—she and Jay decided not to take their relationship to the next level when they discovered the box of pregnancy tests left on the Forman couch. Of course, this is only likely to last for so long. IfThat ’70s Showhas taught us anything it’s that teenagers can only keep their hands to themselves for so long. However, hopefully,That ’90s Showwill avoid any further scares.
