Following its delay for 2026, one of the actors forThe Batman - Part IIreveals some optimism for theDCsequel’s principal photography. Even thoughthe DCEU movie timelinehad its many struggles over the last few years, 2022 was a success for a different DC franchise as Matt Reeves’The BatmanUniverse came to life with Robert Pattinson as the next cinematic Caped Crusader. At this year’s ACE Superhero Comic Con (viaPopVerse),The Batmancast memberAndy Serkis - who played Alfred Pennyworth in the 2022 installment - was one of the featured guests, andThe Batman - Part IIcame up during his panel.Serkis revealed that they are likely set to start"filming early next year"while laying out the hypothetical timeline for production before the film’s release:

Robert Pattinson’s Batman looking shocked in The Batman and Jensen Ackles' Dean Winchester fixing his tie in Supernatural

Basically, I know nothing about the movie other than that I’ve just found out that we’re probably likely to be starting filming early next year. Therefore, if you do the math, it’ll be a year and a half after that. I know that Matt [Reeves] is working really hard on the script. Matt Reeves being Matt Reeves, the extraordinary filmmaker that he is, I can only assume that it’s going to be another brilliant script, because I thought what he did with that first film was pretty amazing. I loved working with Rob Pattinson, and I really look forward to playing Alfred once more.

The Batman - Part II Update Challenges The DC Sequel’s Biggest Rumors

DespiteThe Batman’scritical and financial success, updates onThe Batman - Part IIhave been a complex journey to this point. Reeves' sequel was originally set to start shooting in November 2023, but given the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that took place last year,The Batman - Part IIwas never able to kick off principal photography. That’s why Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios had to finally make the call this year to push Pattinson’s upcoming installment till 2026.

With James Gunn’s DC Universe coming up, includingThe Brave and The Boldmovie, there have been multiplerumors aboutThe Batman - Part IIsupposedly not happening anymore, which have persisted to a degree even after the DC Studios co-CEO debunked them. However, Serkis' latest update proves once again that Reeves and his team are simply taking their proper time to craft the perfect follow-up story forThe Batman - Part II, allowing it to look at outdoing the first film as much as possible.

Once Reeves is finished withThe Batman - Part IIscript, the movie will likely get further into pre-production during the fall. That would include building sets forThe Batman - Part II, as well as beginning to cast the next batch of characters that will join the Elseworlds-based franchise. Hopefully, the world will not have to wait too much longer for big news aboutThe Batman - Part II, including its proper filming date for 2025.
