Summary

Full Housestar David Lipper has explained why DJ’s new romance with his character, Viper, was ultimately cut from season 8, making his role reduced from what was originally planned. Viper was first introduced in season 8, a young member of Jesse’s band who becomes enamored with DJ. While the pair initially had a romantic connection, a later episode of the season saw him compete for her heart with her former boyfriend, Nelson. She ended up choosing neither of them, withFull Housegetting cancelledbefore the storyline could continue.

Speaking with star Dave Coulier on the podcastFull House Rewind(viaPeople), Lipper explained thatFull House’s cancellation ended DJ and Viper’s relationshipbefore it could properly begin. The pair were originally going to be a couple for the remainder of the show, however the premature conclusion of the series meant the story had to be resolved much earlier than anticipated. Check out what Lipper had to say below:

DJ and Steve in Fuller House and Full House.

I was slated to be her next boyfriend going on and on for the rest of the series. Until they found out they were gonna be canceled.

She was gonna make a decision between Nelson and me, because I dumped her, and then I wanted her back. And then, it was gonna be me, but then she picked nobody because the show was ending.

Full House Would Be Very Different With A DJ & Viper Romance

Viper’s romance with the oldest Tanner sister was never rekindled following her decision not to choose him or Nelson at the end of the original series. Instead, the story ofFuller HousesawDJ and Steve become a couple, the pair first having dated inFull Houseseason 5. By the end of the sequel series, the pair are married, despite many ups and downs and many different relationships throughout their lives. This ended the possibility of Viper as a candidate for her affections, something that would have drastically altered the series.

While the band member didn’t appear much in the show,he was displayed as a very considerate young man who truly wanted to date DJ because he liked her.Even though Jesse and Danny suspected he wasn’t right for her, the pair eventually accepted him as a match for her. If the show had continued past the point it was cancelled, their relationship would likely have grown stronger, probably leading to their pairing being a finality for the series. This may have also meant a stronger appearance from him inFuller Housetoo.

Although it’s disappointing the original plan for Viper didn’t end up happening, the series still managed to end on a proper note despite its cancellation. While it would be interesting to see him go as far as marrying DJ, becomingpart of the Tanner family,Full Houseending when it did instead opened a path for Steve to become the primary love interest. Although seeing Viper return in a major capacity would have been interesting, DJs happy ending still managed its way out from the original series' cancellation.

Full Houseran for 192 episodes from September 1987 until May 1995.
